Update: I quit using WD-40 as a rust remover after an old timer showed me his 40 year old anvil
I always figured WD-40 was good enough for surface rust on my tools until I noticed my 4 lb cross peen was still pitted under the spray. A guy in his 70s at the Columbus forge meet pulled out an anvil he'd kept rust free with nothing but beeswax and a rag for 40 years, and it looked almost new. Now I'm trying to figure out if I should strip and re-treat everything, has anyone made that switch and regretted it?
