Chalk lines were my go-to until a laser proved me wrong
I stuck with chalk for marking boiler seams for years. A wobbly line messed up a whole section, so I tried a laser level. My fits are now perfect and I'm kicking myself for not switching sooner! What method did you resist changing?

Oh wow, I totally get that feeling! It's so easy to stick with what you know, even when there's a better way out there. Why do we always wait so long to make the switch? I had a similar thing with an old coffee maker I refused to replace for years. Once I did, I wondered how I ever managed without it. Sounds like your laser level is a game changer!

Actually it was a stud finder not a laser level. I know they both help with hanging stuff but it's a different tool. The laser level makes a straight line, but the stud finder beeps when it hits the wood behind the wall. That's what I was talking about replacing. My old one was useless, kept giving false readings. The new one actually finds the stud every time, saves so much frustration.

@barbaraw16, I'm the same with tools. My old stud finder was so bad I just started knocking on walls and guessing. I even hung a picture that fell right off because I missed the stud. Finally got a new one that beeps properly, and it feels like magic. Your coffee maker upgrade sounds way more civilized than my wall-knocking phase.
