Had a foreman tell me my bead was too cold, changed my whole approach
I’ve been doing this about 5 years solo now, always ran my rods a little low to avoid burn-through. This old foreman on a job last month watched me for like 2 minutes and said ‘you’re fighting the puddle, crank it up 20 amps.’ He was right lol, the flow was way smoother and I stopped getting that lumpy look. Anyone else get stubborn about their settings and have to eat some humble pie on site?

Different settings work for different hands, that's just how it is. Cranking up the amps isn't always the answer if you've got thin material or a tricky joint. What works for one foreman might not work for your next job.

Wait, so I'm supposed to keep a notebook for every different metal thickness and joint type now? Might as well just memorize the user manual cover to cover while I'm at it. Next thing you know we'll need a degree in welding geometry just to tack two pieces of scrap together.
