I don't get the big push for paperless weld logs

Overheard a supervisor last week bragging about how they're going digital with all repair records next month. Said it'll save the company 15 grand a year on paper and filing time. But here's my thing - I've been on a shutdown at a refinery where the tablet died halfway through a tube sheet repair. Three hours of data gone because the cloud hadn't synced. Meanwhile my old carbon copy logbook still had every inch recorded. I get that tech is moving forward but we're not office workers. Has anyone else had a digital system crap out on them during a critical job?

Didn't your supervisor ever learn that the cloud is just someone else's computer, and my old logbook never needs a battery? I've lost more data to dead tablets than I care to admit, so I feel your pain.
