Old timer at the union hall told me I was burning my rods wrong

He watched me strike an arc on a 3/16 rod and just shook his head, then showed me this weird wrist flick that cut my spatter in half. Has anyone else run into a guy who made you rethink how you hold a stinger?

Man that guy at my shop showed me the same flick and it saved me so much rod.

Buddy of mine had this old welder named Red show him how to loosen his grip on the stinger. Guy kept saying you're choking it like a chicken, not holding a hammer. Totally changed his bead quality overnight.
