Rant: I flipped on reusing old bolts after a scary moment

I used to think reusing bolts from old jobs was fine to save time. The moral gray area was between being thrifty and being safe. My crew often did it, and I never saw a problem. Then, a valve blew off because a reused bolt sheared under pressure. Steam shot out and nearly hit a guy next to it. Now I always use new bolts, no matter how small the part. That near miss showed me cheap tricks can cost lives.

Wait, gear failure happens all the time, so was it really that scary?

Yeah that's the thing, it feels like everything's just wearing out at once lately. Like you notice it with small stuff then realize it's happening with bigger things you rely on. Kinda makes you look at everything sideways.
