My cousin in Denver said our book club's 'no spoilers' rule actually kills good debate about a story's structure.

She argued that by avoiding plot points, we end up just talking about how a book made us feel instead of digging into why the author chose to reveal a key twist on page 200, which made me wonder if other groups have a 'spoiler zone' part of their meeting.

Denver cousin might be onto something, so what's your book club's actual rule for discussing structure?

Our group in Austin tried a spoiler zone last year and it fell apart. People kept accidentally revealing things before that part of the meeting. The best talks we've had were about books like "Piranesi" where the whole point is the slow discovery. If we'd dissected the structure upfront, the magic would have been gone. I'd rather have a real reaction to the story than a clinical breakdown of its parts.

Heard a podcast say spoiler rules should depend on the book's genre.
