Warning: tried to caramelize onions in a stainless pan last night without enough butter

I was making French onion soup from scratch on Tuesday and thought I could cut back on the butter to save some calories. The onions basically welded themselves to the bottom of the pan after 10 minutes and I had to scrub for 20 minutes to get the crust off. Anyone else just accept that you need a full stick of butter for good caramelized onions?

Had to choose between a heat pump and a new gas furnace last month

My old furnace died mid-January and I had to pick between a heat pump at $8,500 or a gas furnace for $5,200. I went with the heat pump since my state gives a $2,000 rebate. I was grabbing breakfast at this little diner off Route 66 last Tuesday, and this older man at the next table was going on about how NASA never went to the moon. He said the whole thing was filmed in a secret soundstage at Area 51, and he claimed he knew a guy who worked on the lighting rigs there. What got me thinking was when he pointed out that the flags in the footage look like they're blowing in a wind, but there's no atmosphere on the moon. I looked it up later and saw that the flag has a wire frame, so it's not wind. Still, his confidence was something else. Has anyone else run into someone who brings up that same Area 51 soundstage theory?

Got a gorgeous pink Gooseberry casserole dish at a church rummage sale for $3 fifty years back and yesterday it just split clean in half while I was baking a mac and cheese at 350. Now I'm trying to figure out if I can glue it back together for display or if I should just start hunting for a replacement at estate sales. Anyone else had luck repairing old Pyrex or is that a lost cause?

Took me three tries to figure out why my grind was inconsistent

I was trying to get a consistent grind on some chuck for burgers and kept getting weird chunks in the mix. Turned out my knife was dull on one side and I never even checked it. Anybody ever fight with a grinder for way too long over something dumb like that?

Guy named Hank, been pouring since the 70s, told me to hose down the dirt before my slab pour on a hot day in Phoenix. I figured it would just turn into mud. Did it anyway because he was buying lunch. That slab didn't crack a week later while my other dry-pour jobs looked like a spiderweb. Has anyone else tried this trick, or am I just late to the party?
