Finally decided to use goat skin instead of calf for my first full-leather rebind of 'Moby-Dick' and the grain is just perfect.
It took me three tries to get the dye color right, but the final result has this amazing texture that feels like it's been at sea for years, so has anyone else had a good experience with goat for classic lit projects?

Wait, you dyed the leather yourself? That's a whole other level of commitment, man. Getting the color right even once sounds tough.

Dude, I messed up the color like five times before it looked right.

Yeah, it's a whole process for sure. @leerobinson isn't kidding about messing up, I had to strip and re-dye a belt three times because it kept coming out blotchy. Getting the leather evenly wet before applying the dye is like the most important step, idk why it's so tricky.
