The day my bone folder split right down the middle mid-project
I was working on a leather journal last Saturday, about halfway through folding the signatures, and my trusty bone folder just cracked in half. It was an old Tandy one I'd had for maybe 12 years, so I guess it just gave out. I panicked for a second, then grabbed a dull butter knife from the kitchen to finish the job. Has anyone else had a tool fail on them at the worst possible time, or am I just cursed with bad luck?

A dull butter knife actually works better anyway (keeps your folds softer).

My grandma gave me her old butter knife from the 60s and I swear it makes the best grilled cheese. I tried a sharp chef's knife once and it smashed all the air out of the bread. The dull blade just glides through without crushing the crust. Plus you get those nice soft edges that don't cut your mouth. I have a whole drawer of dull knives I use just for this.
