Heard a gardener say 'moss is just slow grass'
Overheard an older guy at the community garden last Saturday. He pointed at this patch of moss under a bench and called it slow grass. Made me think about how we rush things now. Twenty years ago people let moss grow on purpose, used it for paths and pots. Now everyone wants instant green lawns. Has anyone else noticed folks forgetting the old ways with plants?

Two Christmases ago my neighbor ripped out a 40 year old moss bed for fake turf. Same energy as people throwing away their grandmas cast iron for Teflon.

Did he just want less work, or did he actually think fake stuff looks better than real moss? What was his reasoning for trashing 40 years of growth?

Why is it always the old stuff people get rid of first? Fake moss looks awful, it fades in the sun and gets all brittle after one season. That green plastic stuff never looks right, it's like putting AstroTurf in a garden. Real moss takes decades to settle in and get that deep natural color, you can't just buy that at a store. People get sold on "low maintenance" but end up with something that needs replacing every few years anyway.
