I thought talking to my plants was just a silly thing people did for fun
My neighbor in Phoenix gave me a sad little basil plant she was about to toss, saying I should just talk to it while I watered it, which seemed weird. I tried it for a month, just saying simple stuff like 'grow strong' a few times a week, and it's now the biggest basil I've ever had on my windowsill. Has anyone else tried this and had a plant really respond to it?

Ngl my voice is probably too quiet for the plants, but my breathing might be the key. All that extra carbon dioxide from me just hanging out near them could be a real boost.

Okay the "extra carbon dioxide from just hanging out near them" idea from @tara_sanchez is actually genius. I always thought you had to TALK to plants for them to grow better. But my spider plant is right by my reading chair, and it's gone crazy this year. I'm there breathing on it for hours. Meanwhile my quiet fern in the hallway looks sad. You might be onto something big here.

So we should all just breathe on our plants like @linda_wood does?
