Bought a $40 cordless drill from Harbor Freight instead of the $130 DeWalt, and the chuck wobbled itself loose in 3 weeks
Needed a drill for one weekend project, hanging 6 shelves in my garage in Boise. Figured the cheap one would be fine since I barely use tools. The chuck started wobbling by week 2, and at week 3 the whole thing spun loose mid-hole and stripped the bit. Took it back and the guy at the counter just shrugged and handed me store credit. So do I roll that credit into the DeWalt now, or does every cordless drill under $100 do this eventually?
Three weeks is generous, mine gave up before the first shelf was level (the box said "heavy duty" which I now read as "heavy maybe"). Harbor Freight tools are basically rentals with extra steps, you pay $40 and get a few weekends out of it before the store credit handoff. A DeWalt won't fix bad luck but it'll at least wobble for years instead of weeks. Roll the credit into the good one and keep the receipt this time.
