Walks down memory lane at the old mill building in Lowell
Stopped by the Boott Cotton Mills last Sunday just to kill time, and it hit me how different things are now. My granddad worked a loom there in the 1960s, and the whole floor used to have 300 people running machines. Now it's mostly empty brick and a few tours, but the waterwheel setup still works. Made me think about how we traded factory jobs for $2,000 studio apartments and remote work. Anyone else ever go back to a spot where family worked and just feel weird about it?

Man I used to roll my eyes at people getting all misty about old mills and factories. Thought it was just nostalgia for a time that wasn't even that great, you know, low pay and dangerous machines and all that. But then I went back to the textile plant outside my hometown where my dad fixed looms in the 70s. Place is a storage unit now, and standing in that empty concrete shell I got it. The hum, the heat, the rhythm of people working side by side. That wasn't just a job, that was a whole town's heartbeat. And now it's just cheap pallets and dust. Seeing that made me realize we didn't just lose jobs, we lost a whole way of life that held people together.
