Wood stove glass got black in 2 days, my draft setting was backwards
Been running my Jotul since October and kept scrubbing soot off the door every single morning. Last week a buddy from the fire dept took one look at my flue damper and laughed. I had it pulled the wrong way for 3 months, starving the fire instead of feeding it. Reversed it and now the glass stays clear overnight, plus I'm burning maybe 1/3 less wood. Anyone else here ever get a basic setting flipped and burn through a whole season blind?

Did you get a chance to try flipping it back yet? @barbaraw16, I know that feeling all too well, I did the same thing with my old coal stove years ago and spent a whole winter fighting smoke. It took a neighbor stopping by to point out my air intake lever was set to closed when I thought it was open, and once I fixed it, the difference was night and day. Sometimes it just takes one set of fresh eyes to save you months of hassle and a pile of firewood.
