Pro tip: mixing mortar with a bucket paddle actually saves 15 bucks a batch

I always just used a hoe in a wheelbarrow like my old man taught me. Last week I grabbed a 20 dollar mixing paddle on a whim from the hardware store and tossed it on my drill. It mixed a full bag of type S in under 2 minutes with no lumps. Has anyone else made the switch and not gone back?

Tossed the paddle in a bucket a few months ago and my shoulders thanked me after a full day of mixing. The key is keeping the drill speed low so you don't burn out the motor on thicker batches. Been mixing by the bucket ever since and a 15 dollar paddle pays for itself in no time.

Tossed my wheelbarrow and hoe in the corner after the first paddle batch.

How many bags do you usually mix in a day before the paddle starts struggling with thicker mixes like type N?
