The foreman at the Franklin Ave job said my head joints were running wild, so I switched to a story pole
He walked the wall with me and pointed out 4 spots where my joints had drifted almost 3/8 of an inch over 6 courses, and I had not even noticed. Now I mark every course on a story pole before I lay a single brick, and my walls come out dead straight. Anybody else get called out on joint drift like that?
Man, 3/8 of an inch over just 6 courses? That is wild. I would have bet money that kind of drift was impossible to miss, but you said you didn't even see it until the foreman walked it with you. That is the scary part right there. It creeps up on you one course at a time and your eye just gets used to it. Good on you for going to the story pole instead of arguing with the guy.
