Hot take: my neighbor's offhand comment about 'just using vinegar' saved me $60 last month
I was complaining to my next-door neighbor about those expensive specialty cleaners for my shower glass, you know the ones that promise to remove all the water spots. He just shrugged and said his wife uses straight white vinegar and a squeegee, costs like a dollar for a big jug. I figured why not try it, since I was already at the end of my rope with the cloudy film on the glass. After a week of using a 50/50 vinegar and water mix in a spray bottle, I’m honestly shocked at how clear the doors are now. No streaks, no chemical smell, and I didn't have to buy that $12 spray bottle from the store. Has anyone else found a super basic household item that replaced something way overpriced? I'm thinking about trying it on my windows next.

That vinegar trick really does work better than you'd expect for glass. My wife got me using it to clean the coffee pot at home, the one with the built-in grinder that gets all crusty inside. Ran some straight vinegar through a cycle and it broke down all that mineral buildup like nothing else, saved me from buying those special descaling tablets that cost ten bucks for a tiny box. I might have to try that on the bathroom mirrors too, never thought to go cheap on cleaning stuff before.

Actually read somewhere that the acid in vinegar works because it's mild enough not to eat through surfaces but strong enough to dissolve mineral deposits. Same reason people use it for hard water stains in shower doors. Just gotta be careful with natural stone like granite or marble. That stuff will etch the surface and ruin the sealant. Friend of mine ruined her kitchen countertops that way, had to get them refinished. Good for glass and metal though, that's where it really shines.
