Just figured out my $6 phone stand was making my neck hurt for 8 months
I work from my kitchen table in Reno and kept getting these headaches by 2pm every day, so I finally propped my laptop up on two old textbooks and a cutting board. Turns out the screen was about 4 inches too low, and raising it made the headaches go away in a week. The textbooks cost nothing since they were already sitting in a closet, and my neck stopped hurting within 3 days. I know it sounds too simple, but has anyone else fixed a body ache with stuff they already had laying around instead of buying a fancy stand?
The part about the screen being 4 inches too low got me because I always rolled my eyes at people who blamed their setup for their aches. I figured neck pain was just from sitting too long or bad posture I needed to fix with exercise. Then my wife moved my monitor onto a stack of cookbooks so she could use the desk and my shoulder pain that I'd had for months was gone in like four days. I put it back down to test it and the pain came right back, so that was that. Now I look at every ache as a setup problem first before I blame my body.
