Pro tip: I swapped my $30 store-bought weed killer for a vinegar and dish soap mix last spring
After killing half my lawn with that expensive blue stuff from Home Depot, I tried a gallon of white vinegar with a squirt of Dawn on the driveway weeds and it worked just as good for like 4 bucks, has anyone else tested this on poison ivy without burning everything down?

My neighbor tried that vinegar mix on poison ivy and ended up with a chemical burn on his arm that took two weeks to heal. Just stick to the commercial stuff if you want something that actually kills roots without turning your skin into a science experiment.

I hear you on the vinegar thing being harsh, but I gotta push back a little. Not all homemade mixes are the same, and your neighbor might have used way too strong of a ratio or left it on too long. I've been using a simple mix of vinegar, salt, and a drop of dish soap for years on poison ivy patches in my yard, and it works fine without burning me. The trick is to spray it on a calm day and wash your skin off with soap if any gets on you. Commercial stuff is effective, but it's also full of chemicals that stick around in the soil longer than I'd like. So if someone's careful with the homemade version, I think it's a solid choice.
