Vent: my neighbor in Phoenix laughed at my rain barrel setup, now my water bill is $12 a month
Last summer my neighbor saw me hooking a rain barrel to my downspout in Phoenix and he told me I was wasting my time because it never rains here. I kept at it anyway and added two more barrels plus a simple drip line to my pepper plants, and last month my water bill came in at $12 when it used to be around $40. He came over last week asking how I did it because his bill hit $60. I told him it took me one Saturday and about $80 in parts from a hardware store on Camelback. I know people say rain barrels are pointless in the desert, but we get enough monsoon rain to fill three 55 gallon drums in a good storm. Has anyone else tried this in a dry climate and gotten weird looks from neighbors?
