Can we talk about choosing between dried beans and canned beans for my weekly chili?
I do a big pot of chili every Sunday for my lunches, and for a long time I grabbed canned beans because it was fast. Two weeks ago I looked at the receipt and realized I was paying about $1.29 a can, and I use four cans, so that's over $5 just on beans. A one pound bag of dried pinto beans at my Kroger is like $1.49 and makes way more than four cans worth. I soaked them overnight, simmered them for about 90 minutes, and honestly the chili tasted better, thicker and less salty. The only downside is I have to remember to soak them Saturday night, and I forgot once and had to do the quick soak thing which worked fine. Has anyone else switched to dried beans for stuff like this, and do you notice a real taste difference or is it just me?
