PSA: I spent 10 years salting my pasta water before it boiled and wondering why it took forever to dissolve

The moment I dropped salt into boiling water at a friend's house and saw it disappear in seconds, I felt pretty foolish about all that money I wasted on gas waiting for cold salted water to heat up. Has anyone else had a basic cooking habit that turned out to be completely backwards?

Wait, is this really that big of a deal? I mean sure it's annoying when salt takes a minute to dissolve but is it really worth worrying about the gas you saved? I've tossed salt in cold water plenty of times and the pasta still came out fine. The difference in cooking time for the water to boil is probably a few seconds at most with salt in it. I feel like people get way too caught up in these tiny kitchen details that don't actually matter. Does the pasta actually taste different or are we just overthinking it?

Oh wow, that's actually kind of genius in reverse. Did you ever notice any difference in the pasta texture from salting cold versus boiling water?
