My friend in Lisbon called my packing list 'a moving van plan' and it changed my whole trip.
I used to pack for every possible weather event, which meant paying for checked bags on every flight. She pointed out I was spending more on baggage fees than I saved on my ticket, so I forced myself into a single carry-on for a two-week trip to Portugal. What's one thing you cut from your packing list that saved you real money?

Oh man, I read a travel blog that said to skip packing a hairdryer. It seemed obvious, but I was always lugging mine around. Most hotels have them, and if yours doesn't, you can just let your hair air dry for a couple days. Saved me from buying a special travel dryer and freed up so much space.

Wait, but what if your hair takes forever to dry? Mine would still be wet the next morning.

Yeah, the "air dry for a couple days" advice from @andrew854 only works for some hair types (mine would be a wet mess too). If your hair takes forever, that plan falls apart fast. I've found a microfibre hair towel is a total game changer, it cuts drying time in half without needing a dryer. Packing one takes up no space and saves you from sleeping on a damp pillow.
