TIL my 3 week trip to Portugal cost less than my old car payment

Added up all my spending from last month. Hostels, food, trains, everything. Total was $1,100. My old car note was $425 a month. So three months of that would have been more. Never thought I could travel for that cheap. Do you think focusing on one country is the best way to keep costs down, or is hopping between places cheaper?

My friend saved a ton staying in one Spanish region.

Which region was it? I've found sticking to one area really cuts down on travel costs and lets you find cheaper local spots. Last time I was in Spain, we just stayed in Andalusia and saved so much on trains. You get to know the bus routes and which markets are best, too. It really makes the trip more relaxing.

So you really kept it under $1,100 total? That's wild. Mason728 has a point about sticking to one region to save on travel, but don't you get bored staying put?
