Watch out for "hostel" breakfast scams in Europe...

Last month in Barcelona I booked a hostel that promised "free breakfast" in the listing. First morning I go down and it's just a sad basket of stale bread and instant coffee. Then the guy at the desk says "continental breakfast is 5 euros extra" - the free one was literally just hot water. I felt so dumb for not reading the fine print on the booking site. Has anyone else fallen for this trick in budget hostels overseas?

hot water" as breakfast is wild, how did they even advertise that as a free breakfast without it being a total joke?
