Hot take: I quit tracking every $4 coffee and my savings went up $210 a month
Everyone on here says the small daily buys are what kill your budget, and I went along with it for two years. I logged every coffee, snack, and gas station drink in a spreadsheet, and it just made me feel guilty without changing anything. Then in January I switched to only tracking rent, groceries, and one "fun" number each week, and by March I had $210 more in savings than the same stretch last year. Turns out seeing fewer numbers made me actually look at them. Has anyone else dropped the tiny expense tracking and done better without it?
Keeping it simple really does work better. My wife and I tried the whole spreadsheet thing for a year and it just made us feel bad about every little thing. Now we just watch the big stuff and the small stuff kind of takes care of itself. Guilt was never a good budget tool anyway.
