A librarian in Boise called my bullet journal 'a museum of unfinished thoughts' and I'm still sore about it
I was flipping through my journal at a coffee shop on 8th Street in Boise, Idaho, showing a friend how I track weekly tasks, and a librarian at the next table leaned over and said, 'That is 11 pages of setup for zero finished work.' She was looking at my habit trackers, my calendar, my color coding, all of it. I've cut my monthly setup down to one page since then, but I'm honestly not sure she was wrong. How much setup do you all do before you actually start writing anything down?
The "museum of unfinished thoughts" line stings but it misses the point. Setting up the trackers and color coding is part of the work for some of us, it keeps the system in your head so the actual tasks don't fall through. I run about four pages of setup each month and it has saved me way more time than it costs. A librarian should know that a table of contents isn't the book.
