I sat down last Sunday to plan the week and noticed my daily log had 60+ rapid logs from Tuesday alone, mostly meeting notes and little tasks I never migrated. That's when it hit me: I was using the daily log as a storage bin instead of a filtering tool, so my weekly review turned into a 3 hour chore instead of 20 minutes. I heard a podcaster call this 'collection without processing' and it stung because she was describing me exactly. So I tried a new rule: every Friday at 4pm I force myself to cross off or move every open item, even if that means writing 'decide later' in the future log. It felt painful for two weeks, but my Sunday planning now takes 45 minutes and my index finally matches reality. Has anyone else fought the urge to overstuff the daily page and found a cutoff time that works?
Gotta disagree with the Friday 4pm blanket rule. Some stuff sitting in your daily log is there because it's half-finished thinking, and forcing a move or kill on it just shuffles the same mess into your future log where you'll trip over it later. What worked better for me was a two-touch rule: if I write something twice and still don't act, it gets a real next step or it gets deleted. My backlog went from a graveyard to actually empty, and I still keep plenty of junk notes during the week without guilt.
