That $12 bone scraper I ignored for months is now my go-to

Picked one up on a whim from a supply shop in Denver, figured it was just another gadget. Used it on a pork shoulder yesterday and it cleaned the blade in half the time, why did I waste years using the back of my knife? Anyone else found a cheap tool that ended up being way more useful than expected?

Have you actually tried scraping a bone with just a regular knife edge after spending all that time with a dedicated scraper? Because the truth is, most of us got along fine for years without it, and that's not because we were doing it wrong, it's because the back of a knife does the same job if you just put a little elbow grease into it. These fancy tools just give people a reason to buy another thing, and then they convince themselves it's a game changer when really it's just a narrow piece of metal. I've seen folks drop cash on these gadgets and then still struggle with the tough bits, so it's not like it fixes everything. Plus, that scraper takes up drawer space and needs cleaning after, which is just more hassle than sliding a knife under the sink. It's a nice toy, sure, but calling it a go-to after one pork shoulder feels like a honeymoon phase, not a real upgrade.

Honestly, I used a knife back for years too and it worked fine, but once I tried a scraper on a big brisket, I never looked back. Ngl, the knife edge just doesn't get into those crevices as clean, even with elbow grease, so I get why it feels like a game changer to some.
