Warning: Don't waste $150 on a fancy boning knife set online

I mean, I saw this ad for a set of six German steel boning knives for $150 and thought it was a steal. They looked slick with the colored handles and everything. Got them in last month and after three uses the edge was gone on two of them. Tried sharpening one on my stone and the metal just felt soft, like butter. Meanwhile my old 40 dollar Victorinox from the restaurant supply store is still going strong after five years. I ended up giving the set to a buddy who does light trimming at home and it's fine for him I guess. Has anyone else been burned by those flashy knife sets online?

Six knives for a hundred fifty bucks and they're softer than a politician's handshake, what a deal. I bet they're made from the same mystery metal as those "damascus" sets on Facebook ads. Guess you paid the stupid tax we all pay once when we trust a flashy picture over a simple white handled workhorse.
