My 20 year old cast iron pan vs my new one, night and day after one strip

Picked up a rusty #8 skillet at a yard sale in Portland for 5 bucks. Stripped it with lye and reseasoned it 4 times with crisco. Now it cooks eggs better than the brand new one I bought last month at target, which already has flaking spots. Guess they really dont make them like they used to. Anyone else notice new cast iron just doesnt hold seasoning as good?

Man, tell me about it! I grabbed a old Wagner from my grandma's garage and it's like a totally different beast than the lodge stuff now. The new ones just seem rougher and the seasoning peels off if you look at it wrong, while that vintage pan just keeps getting slicker every time I use it. You got a steal for five bucks, that thing's gonna outlive all of us.
