Why does nobody talk about the $40 rice cooker from the Asian grocery that outlasted my $180 one
I bought a Zojirushi from Bed Bath & Beyond back in 2019 for $180 and felt pretty good about it, until the nonstick coating started peeling off the inner pot last spring. I went to the H Mart on Bellaire in Houston to grab replacement parts and the lady at the counter laughed and pointed me to a $40 Tiger cooker sitting on the shelf. I figured it would die in six months but I was wrong, this thing has cooked rice almost every day for two years now with zero issues. The lid comes apart for cleaning, the pot is thick aluminum, and the only thing it does not have is a timer. My old Zojirushi had a clock and a bunch of settings I never touched once. Sometimes we pay for features that break before the basic machine does. Has anyone else had a cheap appliance outlast a fancy one, and what was it?
Zojirushi pots don't peel if you don't scrub them with metal or run them through the dishwasher, so that's kind of on you. Plus the timer and keep warm settings are the whole point, a cooker without those is just a pot with a cord.
