PSA: That lady at the church rummage sale calling my giveaway pile 'junk' made me fix my whole approach
I used to just dump everything on my porch with a blurry photo and a caption that just said 'free stuff, come get it.' Back in March I posted a box of old kitchen stuff, and a woman messaged me to say the listing was so vague she almost drove 20 minutes for nothing. She said 'how am I supposed to know what's in there, I'm not playing a guessing game.' That bugged me but she was right. Now I sort stuff into clear zip bags by type, lay it all flat on a white sheet, and write a real list of what's in each pile with a count. Last week I gave away 40 items in one weekend, and every single person showed up when they said they would. Doing it this way takes me maybe 15 extra minutes per post, but I hardly get flakes anymore. Anyone else get called out about their listing photos and change how they post? Curious what actually made a difference for you.
I used to figure a porch pile was good enough since it was free, and people should just show up and dig. Then I got the same pushback, someone asked me what size the clothes were and I had no answer, and it hit me how lazy that was. A quick list and a clear photo costs almost nothing and saves everyone a wasted trip, so now I do it every time.
