That one Monday in March when the curb pile gave back

Back in 2019 I put a wobbly old bookshelf out on the curb in Portland, and by noon a lady had taken it, fixed the leg with a bracket, and left me a note saying it was in her daughter's room now. Then that same week I found a nearly new rice cooker on the same block, free, with the manual still in the bag. It felt like the universe was balancing out all the junk I'd hauled to the dump over the years. Anyone else ever get a weird thrill from seeing your old stuff get a second life?

Tbh that rice cooker story got me, but the note is the real kicker. I once set out an old desk chair with a cracked wheel and someone took it same day, then I found a bag of fresh basil hanging on my doorknob with a sticky note that said "thanks for the chair." Never found out who, but I still think about that basil. Ngl, seeing your junk get picked up feels better than selling it sometimes, like you passed a test you didn't even know you were taking. Also, that whole Portland curb economy is real, I've seen lamps and toasters trade hands like gold out there.
