My 3 year old Festool track saw guide rail just cracked clean across while breaking down a sheet of Baltic birch.

That's a brutal failure for a Festool.

Saw a thread on a woodworking forum where a guy's Festool sander motor just quit mid project. Heard their customer service was good about it though.

I actually read on the Festool Owners Group that their newer sanders have a plastic gear housing now instead of metal. That change might explain why some motors are failing sooner than expected. Holly_green82 mentioned their customer service being good, which lines up with what I've heard from other folks who had to send theirs in. Still though, for a sander that costs what a Festool does, you'd think the internals would hold up better than a $60 Ryobi.
