Wasted $300 on a 'specialized' disability lawyer who did nothing

I hired this guy in San Diego named Mark Reynolds who claimed to be an expert in California disability appeals. Paid him $300 just for a consultation and he basically told me to fill out the same forms I could have done myself. Anyone else get burned by a lawyer who charged upfront without helping?

I mean that 'specialized' bit is exactly what gets me. It's like every lawyer or consultant these days just slaps 'expert' on their website and charges double. You paid $300 to be told to do the boring paperwork yourself. That's basically paying someone to say 'good luck with that.' I saw this pattern with a plumber once he said he was a drain specialist but then tried to upsell me on a whole new pipe system I didn't need. It feels like half the time these people are just hoping you're too overwhelmed to question them or too scared to push back. You probably saved yourself more hassle by walking away, even if it cost you that upfront fee. Idk, maybe it's just me but I trust a regular person's honest opinion more than a flashy title anymore.

Wait, he tried to upsell you on a whole new pipe system after calling himself a drain specialist? That's wild. I had a similar thing with an electrician who called himself a "home automation expert" but then tried to sell me a $2,000 smart panel just to fix a flickering light. How do these people sleep at night charging for problems they invent? Did you end up reporting that plumber anywhere?
