Threw $200 at a Soviet lens repair kit on eBay. Total scam.

Bought a CLA kit for a Kiev 88 from some guy in Ukraine. The tools were trash, the grease was hard as a rock. Anyone else get burned by those "complete" repair sets from eastern Europe?

Buddy of mine got one and the shims were just old washers from a hardware store.

I mean, $200 for a Soviet lens repair kit sounds like a lot, but it's not like you're gonna find genuine factory tools for a 1960s camera on Amazon. Did you actually try the grease or just judge it by the look?

That old stuff is usually more about the history than if it actually works, like vintage gear everywhere.
