Can we talk about the REI guy who swore I needed a 4 season tent for summer camping in Yellowstone
He said my 3 season tent would leak in the afternoon storms and I'd freeze at night. I spent $389 on a 4 season and it was so hot inside I slept with the door open the whole trip, and my old tent worked fine for my buddy who came along. Anyone else get talked into way more tent than they actually need?
How cold does it actually get in Yellowstone in summer? I ask because I had the opposite thing happen at a shop in Colorado. The kid working there kept pushing me toward this ultralight tent that cost more than my car payment, saying my cheap dome would fall apart in the wind. I told him my cheap dome has survived ten years of trips and he just stared at me like I grew a second head. Some of these folks are just reading off a script they got from a brand rep.
