Our vintage lantern dying mid-story gave us a real scare
Years ago, my friends and I were camping, telling ghost stories around an old gas lantern. It flickered out right at the climax, leaving us in total darkness. Everyone jumped, and there was a lot of nervous laughter. Now, with LED options and solid reviews, that kind of surprise is rare. I kinda miss the spontaneity of those older gear hiccups.

My buddy's camping trip in Colorado had a similar moment with a sputtering campfire. Those unplanned gaps in light FORCE you to sit with the story and your own imagination. Modern gear is reliable, but it kinda sterilizes the wild feel of being truly at the mercy of the elements.

Yeah, my campfires usually fail so hard they're anti-sterilization.
