Swapped my $90 Coleman cooler for a $25 foam box and it held ice 2 days longer
Went camping at Lake Tahoe over Labor Day and did a side by side test with my old trusty Coleman Xtreme against one of those cheap styrofoam lined boxes from the bait shop. The foam box kept ice solid for 3 full days while the Coleman was basically a puddle by day 2, mainly because the lid on the expensive one never sealed tight even after I added weather stripping. I get that hard coolers survive getting thrown around, but for car camping I'm not hauling a 40 pound brick anymore. Has anyone tried the freezer block trick with a cheap box and gotten even better results?
