Appreciation post: The coworker who caught my resume typo before I hit send

Last Thursday I was about to submit a job application for a senior analyst role at a firm downtown. I had this coworker, Mike, glance over my resume during lunch at the deli on 4th street. He pointed out I'd written 'managment' instead of 'management' in three different bullet points. That one mistake would have made me look careless to the hiring manager. Has anyone else had a colleague save them from an embarrassing application mistake?

Hang on, is that really such a big deal? I mean, sure, typos look sloppy but I feel like people are way too scared of them. Hiring managers have seen it all and one misspelled word isn't going to sink your whole application if your experience is solid. It's not like you wrote the wrong company name or said something crazy. Plus, you can always spellcheck the file yourself before you hit send. I get that Mike did a nice thing, but I think we give typos way too much power over our career chances.

Not like I can talk, my last resume had "detail oriented" spelled wrong. So maybe we're all just winging it.
