My old laptop died right before a big presentation last week

I was getting ready to show a proposal to a potential client on Tuesday and my 5 year old Dell just shut off and never turned back on. I spent 2 hours in a panic pulling files from an external backup I did 3 months ago. Ended up borrowing my roommate's laptop and presenting with a clunky PDF instead of my polished slides. The client said they didn't notice but I felt super unprofessional. Has anyone else had hardware fail at the worst possible moment and how did you recover?

Lost some files too, it was brutal watching them vanish like that.
