My old boss said my code comments were just repeating the code, and I argued with him for a month
He told me if the comment doesn't explain WHY, delete it, and I kept writing stuff like "sets the count to zero" until he made me read a junior dev's file out loud in a team meeting back in March. Now I write way fewer comments and my pull requests get approved about twice as fast. Did anyone else have to get embarrassed in front of their team before that clicked?
Did you ever read that Stack Overflow post about comments explaining the "why" instead of the "what"? That one finally made it click for me after years of writing useless stuff like "increment i".
