PSA: I finished my CPR recert with the video course instead of the in-person class and it was way less painful
My card was about to lapse so I had to pick between the 4 hour in-person class at the community center in Dayton or the 90 minute online one with a skills check at the end. I went with the online version mostly because of my night shifts, and I actually retained more since I could pause and rewind the compression demos. At the skills check the instructor said my form was spot on, which never happens after sitting through a 4 hour lecture at 7am. The hands-on part still happened, it just wasn't buried in a day of slides. Has anyone done the blended format for other certs like ACLS or is that one still better in person?
Man, I wish I had known about the blended option sooner because I sat through the full 4 hour class last year and it was rough. I read a thread on a nursing forum where people were saying the online plus skills check format actually works better for CPR because you can replay the demos as many times as you need. One person mentioned that the in-person lecture part is mostly just watching videos anyway, so doing it at home with a fast forward button makes sense. For ACLS I've heard it's a different story though, since the algorithms and team stuff really need live practice with other people. A couple folks said the online ACLS felt rushed and they missed getting real time feedback from the instructor. Sounds like you found a good setup for the basic cert at least.
