My trusty old Makita drill chuck seized solid yesterday afternoon, so I soaked it overnight in a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF and it spun free this morning.
Anyone have a better fix for a stuck chuck, or is it time to just replace the whole drill?

Hey, that acetone and ATF mix is a solid trick for a lot of things, but for a drill chuck, you might want to be careful. That mix can wash out the grease inside the chuck bearings. It might spin free now, but it could wear out faster or get gritty. Have you tried just tapping the chuck body with a mallet while pulling the trigger? Sometimes that's all it takes to break it loose without hurting the parts inside.

My old drill chuck was totally frozen last year. I gave it a few solid taps with a rubber mallet like @simong79 said and it came right loose, no mess. Why risk cleaning out all the good grease?
