The pencil lead broke and I just stood there for 5 seconds
Last month I was marking out a door jamb in a client's garage in Tacoma and my pencil snapped clean in half. I froze, staring at it, because for years I would've just grabbed the next one without thinking. But I remembered my old boss back in 2019 who made me sharpen every pencil at the end of the day, and I used to think it was busywork. Now I get why he did it, that little routine saves me from stopping mid-cut to hunt for a sharp one. Anyone else got a habit they hated learning but now swear by?
