Trim job in Boise made me stop using my nail gun for casings
Last month I was trimming out a living room in Boise. Nothing fancy, just basic pine casings. Third doorway in, the 18 gauge nails kept blowing through the back of the casing where the wall was bowed. Had to pull and patch two spots. A older carpenter on the other site saw me struggling and said, "you trust the gun too much, just hand nail the outside corners." I switched to 4d finish nails and a punch for the corners and miters. Haven't had a blowout since. Has anyone else gone back to hand nailing for certain parts of trim?

Hey, 4d nails are actually smaller than 18 gauge, so that's not quite right.
