I switched from a knee kicker to a power stretcher for small rooms, no going back
Everyone kept telling me the power stretcher was overkill for anything under 10x10. Spent 6 months in Tulsa doing closets and hallways with the knee kicker, dealing with wrinkles and re-stretches. Finally borrowed my buddy's power stretcher for a 6x9 bedroom last Friday. Took me maybe 10 extra minutes to set up, but the carpet laid flat on the first pull. No callbacks, no fighting the pile. Has anyone else made this switch and found it's actually faster once you account for fix work?

My old boss ran a two man crew in Wichita and he swore the knee kicker was all you needed for anything under 12x12. Then he did a 9x11 in a rental with cheap berber and the seams popped within a month. After that he bought a used power stretcher off a guy on Craigslist for 200 bucks and never touched the kicker again except for stairs. The setup time thing is real though, I've heard guys say it evens out around 8x10 or so, anything smaller and the kicker is still quicker. But like you said, once you add in the re-stretch trips it's not even close. Fixing wrinkles costs way more than the 10 minutes of setting up a stretcher.
