Shoutout to the installer in Spokane who told me to stop guessing at stair nose cuts
He watches me eyeball 14 steps and says measure every single one, they are never the same. I was burning through material on returns. Do you actually measure each step or trust the pattern?

Measured all 14 on my last oak staircase job after getting burned on three bad returns, and every single one was off by at least an eighth. Takes maybe ten extra minutes but saves you a whole board when the miters actually close up tight. Pattern only works if the guy who framed it was perfect, and he never is.
